Kate S Kellogg Elementary School

Honestly, I’ve been pretty worried about the health environment at Kellogg lately. My kid is always coming home with some kind of bug, and after looking into some of the recent facility issues, I can see why. I saw in the district reports that they've had major issues with the vacuum cleaners not even working and, even worse, a total backup of the entire sanitary drain system recently. It's hard to feel good about sending your kid to a building with plumbing and cleaning equipment failures that major. It feels like the school is constantly playing catch-up with basic maintenance and hygiene. Communication about when these things get fixed is pretty much non-existent, and for a neighborhood school in Beverly, I really expected it to be kept in better shape for the kids.

I really want to love Kellogg because it's right here in Beverly, but the health and maintenance issues are getting hard to ignore. We recently found out through some board reports that the school had an emergency backup of the entire sanitary drain system, which is honestly gross and a huge health concern for the kids. On top of that, it seems like basic cleaning equipment like the vacuums are constantly broken or out of commission, and you can really tell when you walk through the halls. It just doesn't feel like the cleanest environment for germy elementaryers. Between the plumbing scares and the lackluster upkeep, I'm constantly worried about what my kid is picking up at school besides just their ABCs.
