Mt. Vernon is okay, but it definitely feels like your typical under-resourced CPS building some days. On the plus side, they’ve recently done some upgrades like better lighting in the gym, and that nature space they have is actually a really nice touch for the kids to get some fresh air. It's nice to see some effort put into the physical environment. However, like a lot of schools in the district, the attendance can be hit or miss, and when something like the flu starts going around, it feels like it spreads through those classrooms pretty fast. Communication about illness is just okay—I usually find out from other moms in the pickup line before I hear anything official from the school. It’s an average health environment, not the cleanest place I've ever seen, but the staff seems to care and they're trying with the facilities they have.
