Edward White Elementary Career Academy

Being honest, I'm pretty worried about the environment at Edward White. The chronic absenteeism rate is around 40%, which is honestly wild, and it makes me feel like illnesses just cycle through the building constantly without much control. Whenever my kid is there, it feels like half the class is missing, and communication from the office about what’s going around is basically non-existent. The student-teacher ratio is okay because it's a small school, but that doesn't make up for the lack of a strong wellness culture. It feels less like a 'career academy' and more like a place where health and attendance are just an afterthought. I’ve reached out about the cleaning protocols because of the old building, but I never get a straight answer.

My youngest is in the preschool program at Ed White and overall I'm really happy with how they handle the little ones. The classrooms are always wiped down and they are super strict about the '24-hour fever free' rule, which is a bit of a headache for work but honestly keeps the flu from spreading through the whole class. They’re great about calling right away if there’s a bump on the playground, though I do wish they’d send out more frequent email updates when something like strep is going around the neighborhood just so we can be on the lookout.
