  • St. Helen’s has a really sweet, tight-knit community feel, but the health side of things is a bit of a mixed bag. The building is older, which you’d expect in Ukrainian Village, but sometimes I worry about the ventilation in the classrooms during cold and flu season. Communication about when bugs are going around is okay, but it definitely feels like they rely more on the 'faith and family' vibe than on having really modern wellness protocols. It's a small school, so when one kid gets sick, it basically spreads to the whole grade in two days. It’s a nice place, but I wish they were a bit more proactive with sanitizing and updating the facilities.

  • Parents are very good at keeping their children at home when they're sick, and also proactively messaging other parents when kids get sick so others can be aware. Before Christmas, there was a flu outbreak in several class rooms and I found out about it from our WhatsApp mom group. The school could do a better job communicating with parents when illnesses are going around. I only remember seeing preventative measures communicated one time, and that was when lice were spreading last year.
