  • Honestly, I’ve been pretty happy with how Shining Star handles things. Since it's a Head Start program, they take the health and safety stuff really seriously. I know they've put a lot of work into their cleaning protocols lately, and it shows because the classrooms don't have that 'germy' smell you get at a lot of preschools around the South Side. They actually have a written wellness plan that includes ways for the kids to relax, which is a nice touch for little ones' mental health. My only real gripe is that the sick-child policy is super strict—if your kid even looks like they have a sniffle, you're getting a call to come pick them up. It's a pain for working parents, but I guess it keeps the classrooms cleaner in the long run. Communication from the staff about wellness training is great, so I feel like my kid is in safe hands.

  • I'm honestly pretty impressed with how Shining Star handles health stuff for being a neighborhood preschool. My little one is at the 103rd street location, and you can tell they actually follow their wellness plans. They do a lot of staff training on safety and wellness, and it shows in how clean the rooms stay. They're part of the Early Head Start program, so they're pretty strict about immunizations and sick kids staying home, which I appreciate because it keeps the 'daycare plague' from spreading too fast. Even when things get busy, the staff seems to prioritize keeping the environment calm and healthy for the kids. It’s a solid, safe spot on the South Side if you're worried about hygiene and well-being.
