To be honest, I’m pretty frustrated with the situation at Ward right now. The chronic absenteeism is a massive red flag—it feels like half the kids are out sick or just missing all the time, and the school doesn't really seem to have a handle on it. There’s been talk about safety and trust issues in the local community too, which definitely impacts how comfortable parents feel sending their kids in. Our student-to-counselor ratio is way too high for an elementary school in West Garfield Park; these kids need more support than one person can give to hundreds of students. Between the lack of wellness resources and the inconsistent communication from the office, it feels like health and mental well-being are just not the priorities they should be here.
