  • I have to be honest, I'm pretty worried about the environment at Melody Elementary. The school is older and it feels like they are constantly playing catch-up with repairs—I actually saw a board meeting note about 'troubleshooting' and 'repairs' needing to be done on the building recently, which makes me wonder about things like the HVAC and air quality for my kid. Plus, it's just really tough to get in touch with anyone when my child is sick. The attendance rates in this neighborhood are usually a mess, and you can definitely feel that survival-mode vibe in the building. It’s a lot for the teachers to handle, and I don't feel like wellness or cleanliness is the top priority right now. Hoping that new wellness center project actually happens soon because we really need better health support here.

  • Melody is okay, but it’s definitely a typical big city public school situation. My son is in second grade and I feel like they do their best with what they’ve got, but the building definitely feels a bit older and sometimes the bathrooms aren't as spotless as I’d like. They are pretty strict about the fever-free policy though, which I appreciate because it keeps the worst of the seasonal bugs from wiping out the whole class. Communication is hit or miss—sometimes I get a quick text about a pink eye case in the room, and other times I feel like I'm the last to know. Overall, it’s a decent environment but it could use a bit more focus on the wellness side of things.
