George Manierre Elementary School

I'm really struggling with the health environment at Manierre lately. The chronic absenteeism is a major red flag—it feels like kids are constantly out, and it makes me wonder how well illnesses are actually being managed or tracked here. While I appreciate the preschool programs, the cleaning definitely feels hit or miss. I’ve noticed the school is frequently listed on board agendas for specialized cleaning equipment (Kaivac) and maintenance issues, which tells me they are playing catch-up on old building grime rather than maintaining a consistently healthy space. It's tough because the staff seems like they're trying, but with the student-teacher ratios being what they are, it feels like individual student wellness just gets lost in the shuffle.

Manierre is pretty solid when it comes to keeping the kids healthy. My youngest is there now and the nurse is actually really on top of things—she calls me right away if there’s a bump or a fever. I appreciate that they still take the cleaning stuff seriously; you can tell they scrub the desks down and they’re always reminding the kids to use the hand sanitizer stations. It’s not perfect, the sick-child policy can be a little strict if you're a working parent, but I'd rather have that than the whole class catching a stomach bug.
