  • I have some serious reservations about the environment at Beard for my little one. While it's a specialty school for really young kids, the building always seems to be on a repair or maintenance list in the CPS board agendas, which makes me wonder about the actual air quality and structural upkeep of the facility. Since it's an early childhood center, you'd think they’d be on top of things, but the chronic absenteeism rates are way too high—hovering around 27%, which is a massive red flag. It feels like either kids are constantly getting sick due to poor ventilation and cleanliness, or the school just doesn't have a solid handle on health protocols. It’s stressful as a parent when you’re worried about mold or outdated systems in a place meant for preschoolers.

  • Beard has been a great fit for my little one! Since it's a specialty school for the younger kids (Pre-K to 3rd), they seem really on top of the cleaning rituals, which is a huge relief during flu season. My son’s teacher is awesome about sending home reminders when something is going around the classroom, so I'm not totally caught off guard. The nurse is super sweet too and actually calls to give me a real update if he scrapes a knee or feels off, rather than just sending a generic note. The only downside is that the drop-off area can get a bit chaotic and doesn't always feel like the cleanest spot, but inside the building, everything seems well-maintained and safe for the kiddos.
