  • To be honest, I’m pretty frustrated with the situation at Roots right now. It feels like they are constantly understaffed, which makes me really worry about how much cleaning is actually getting done in the classrooms. I see a lot of 'help wanted' posts for teachers online, and you can tell the staff that is there is totally stretched thin. My little one has come home with a runny nose or a cough almost every other week, and I don't feel like the sick-child policy is being enforced strictly enough—I've definitely seen kids being dropped off who clearly weren't feeling well. The communication about illnesses going around the classroom is pretty hit or miss, too. It’s a shame because the location is great, but the lack of consistency with health and staffing is a huge red flag for us.

  • Honestly, I have mixed feelings about Roots. The location in Humboldt Park is super convenient and the teachers are really sweet with the kids, but the communication regarding illness can be a bit hit or miss. It feels like every time a bug goes around, we're finding out a little late, which is tough when you're trying to keep the whole family from getting sidelined. The facility looks clean enough for a preschool, but they could definitely be a bit more proactive with their sick-child policies and letting parents know exactly what's circulating in the classroom.
