Jose de Diego Elementary Community Academy

Honestly, I’m pretty frustrated with the health environment at Jose de Diego. The chronic absenteeism rate is hoverng around 40%, which is a huge red flag for me—it feels like kids are constantly out sick and there’s no real plan to address the underlying wellness issues. On top of that, the building definitely shows its age. I saw in the board notes that they’re having to put in service calls just to get window handles adjusted so they actually work, which makes me worry about the ventilation in the classrooms during flu season. If we can't even open windows properly for fresh air, it’s no wonder stuff spreads so fast. The staff is nice enough, but the school feels overwhelmed and the student-to-counselor ratio is way too high to give these kids the mental health support they actually need.

Tbh, I’m pretty frustrated with the situation at Jose De Diego. My kid is in the preschool program and I feel like the building itself is really starting to show its age in ways that affect the students' health. I saw on a board agenda that they’re having to put in service calls just to get window handles fixed and adjusted—it makes me wonder about the actual air quality and ventilation if the windows can't even be operated properly. It feels like the school is constantly playing catch-up with repairs rather than focusing on a healthy learning environment. Communication about when bugs or seasonal illnesses are going around is also pretty hit-or-miss, which is stressful for us parents trying to keep our little ones healthy.
