  • To be honest, I’ve been pretty frustrated with the health environment at Jackie Robinson lately. The attendance across the school is really low, and it feels like there’s always something going around. With such a small student body, you’d think they’d have a better handle on cleanliness, but the building feels like it needs a major deep clean—especially with some of the older infrastructure issues I've heard about. It’s tough because the teachers are spread thin, and when kids are constantly out sick, it just feels like the whole wellness side of things is an afterthought. I’m really hoping those capital improvement funds actually go toward better ventilation or fixing up the bathrooms soon because right now, it’s not great.

  • My youngest is at Jackie Robinson right now and honestly, the health vibe is pretty solid for a smaller CPS school. Since it’s a tiny student body, the staff actually notices right away if a kid looks under the weather. They’re super on top of calling parents if a fever pops up, and they definitely stick to that 24-hour fever-free rule before letting kids back, which helps keep the classroom bugs to a minimum. The building is older, but you can tell the custodial staff works hard to keep the common areas and bathrooms decent. My only gripe is I wish they did a bit more for indoor wellness during those brutal Chicago winter months when they can't get outside for recess, but overall, I feel like my kid is in a clean and safe spot.
