Ida B Wells Preparatory Elementary Academy

Honestly, I’m pretty worried about the health environment at Wells Prep lately. The chronic absenteeism is hitting over 40% which is wild—it feels like kids are constantly out sick and there’s no real communication on what’s going around. The building itself is older and I’ve noticed some issues with the lighting and general maintenance that makes me wonder about the air quality and ventilation too. With the student-to-teacher ratios where they are, there’s no way the staff can keep up with sanitizing everything like they should. It just feels like a struggle to keep the kids healthy and in their seats right now.

I honestly really like the vibe at Ida B Wells. They’re super on top of things whenever there’s a stomach bug or something going around the kindergarten classes—I usually get an email pretty quickly so I know to keep an eye out. The building is older, but you can tell the staff really tries to keep it clean. My son says they’re always reminding them to use hand sanitizer before lunch, which I appreciate. Only downside is that the nurse isn't there every single day of the week, which can be a bit stressful if your kid has regular meds, but overall the school seems to genuinely care about the kids staying healthy.
