Humboldt Community Christian School

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about HCCS. On one hand, the small class sizes are great—having a 1:11 ratio means the teachers actually know when my kid is looking pale or acting off before a fever even hits. They seem to keep a decent eye on the kids and it doesn't feel like a total germ factory compared to some larger daycares in Logan Square. However, the building itself seriously needs an update. It feels pretty dated and worn down, which makes me wonder about the ventilation and how deep the 'deep cleaning' actually goes. It’s a nice enough community vibe, but I wish the facility reflected a more modern, wellness-focused environment.

My little one has been at Humboldt Community for a few months now and I’m pretty happy with how they handle things. The classrooms always look tidy and they have the kids washing their hands constantly, which is a huge plus during flu season in Chicago! Communication about colds going around is usually pretty good—we get an email if there’s a breakout of something like HFM or a stomach bug so we can watch for symptoms. My only gripe is their sick policy is super strict; they’ll call you to pick up for even a slightly runny nose sometimes, which is a pain for working parents, but I guess it keeps the germs down in the long run. Overall, it feels like a safe, healthy spot for the kids.
