  • I've been pretty frustrated with the situation at Henry Clay lately. The building itself is showing some real age and wear—just looking at the Board of Ed agendas, you see items about broken glass and maintenance issues that shouldn't be sitting around an elementary school. It honestly makes me worry about the basic safety and cleanliness for the kids during the day. Plus, the chronic absenteeism is a massive red flag; it feels like kids are constantly out sick or just not showing up, and I don't see a strong wellness culture pushing back on that. It's hard to feel good about the environment when the physical space feels neglected and the attendance is so low.

  • My youngest is at Henry Clay and it’s a bit of a mixed bag with the health stuff. On the plus side, the teachers are really good about reminding the little ones to wash their hands, and they are super quick to call if a kid looks even slightly flushed. However, the building is pretty old, so sometimes the cleanliness feels like it's a losing battle against the dust and the Chicago winter grime. I also wish they were a bit clearer with the email blasts when stuff like strep is going around—sometimes you don't find out until half the class is already out sick.
