  • Honestly, Hegewisch is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, the teachers really seem to care about the kids, but the communication regarding when stuff like hand-foot-and-mouth or even just a bad stomach bug is going around can be really slow. I feel like I'm finding out from other parents in the parking lot rather than an official email from the center. The facility looks clean enough when I walk in, but it definitely has that 'old building' feel, and I've worried about the ventilation in the winter when everyone is cooped up. They're strict about the 24-hour fever-free policy which is good, but I wish they were more proactive about sanitizing the high-touch areas during flu season. It's okay for daycare, but you definitely have to stay on top of them yourself.

  • My little one has been at Hegewisch for a few months now and I’m honestly pretty happy with the health side of things. The center always smells fresh when I walk in, not like that heavy bleach smell, but you can tell they're actually cleaning the toys and rugs regularly. They are super strict about the '24-hour fever free' rule, which can be a pain when you have to call off work, but it definitely keeps the nasty stomach bugs from sweeping through the whole classroom every week. The teachers are also great about reminding the kids to wash their hands as soon as they come in from the playground. Communication is good too; I usually get an email or a quick note if something like hand-foot-and-mouth is going around so I can keep a lookout. It's a solid, clean spot for the neighborhood.
