  • I honestly love how small Good Shepherd is. With only about 30 to 50 kids in the whole school, it feels more like a big family than a typical Chicago school. When one of the kids gets a sniffle, the teachers are on it immediately and let us know, so stuff doesn't just spread like wildfire through the hallways. The student-teacher ratio is seriously amazing—around 10:1—so my child actually gets individual attention, and the rooms don't feel crowded or stuffy like some of the older buildings in Logan Square can. It's clean, well-kept, and because it’s such a tight-knit community, they really prioritize the kids' wellbeing and safety. It's been a relief for us not to deal with constant 'room-wide' illnesses every other week.

  • My two kids have been at Good Shepherd for a few years now and I’m pretty happy with how they handle health stuff. The classrooms always seem clean and don't have that 'old school' smell, which is a plus since the building is older. The front office is also really on top of calling parents the second a kid looks even a little bit feverish—it can be annoying when you're at work, but it definitely keeps the stomach flu from ripping through the whole grade. I do wish they had a bit more of a dedicated nurse on-site every day instead of just certain hours, but overall the teachers are really good about making sure the kids wash their hands before lunch and after playground time in Logan Square.
