  • I'm honestly getting a bit worried about the air quality at Ebinger. I saw in some of the recent district board agendas that they've been having to scramble for emergency funds and transfers specifically to get filters for the AHUs and roof units. It makes me wonder how long the ventilation has been sub-par, especially with the way colds just seem to rip through the classrooms here. For a school in Edison Park, you'd think the basic maintenance would be more proactive. The communication from the school about these facility issues is basically non-existent. My kid is constantly coming home with a scratchy throat or a lingering cough, and knowing they're just now getting around to basic filtration needs is a huge red flag for me.

  • As a parent at Christian Ebinger Elementary, I feel good about my child’s health and safety at this K–8 neighborhood school in Edison Park, especially with its relatively low 14:1 student–teacher ratio and organized routines. Classrooms and common areas are generally clean, and the school follows standard CPS health protocols, handwashing, sending sick kids home, and clear communication around things like flu season or stomach bugs. My child has had the usual run of colds, but nothing out of the ordinary for an elementary school, and teachers are quick to let us know if there’s a concern. The “commendable” designation on the Illinois Report Card reassures me that the school is functioning solidly overall, though like many CPS schools they are still recovering from the academic and social impacts of the pandemic years. I do think there’s room for continued improvement around building maintenance and consistency in how student needs are addressed, but day to day my kid feels safe, supported, and part of a caring community.
