I honestly have mixed feelings about New Sullivan. While I'm glad they have the preschool program on-site for the little ones, the actual day-to-day health environment is pretty stressful. Like a lot of CPS schools on the South Side, the building feels like it’s struggling to keep up. Communication about when kids are getting sick in class is hit or miss, and it feels like there's always something going around. With how high the chronic absenteeism is here—it's way over 20%—it tells me kids are either staying home sick a ton or there’s not enough support to keep them healthy and in the classroom. It’s hard to feel great about the wellness culture when the numbers look like that.
