  • To be honest, I’m pretty frustrated with how things are handled at Shining Star. The classroom sizes feel really cramped and it seems like there’s always a bug going around because the kids are so on top of each other. Communication about illnesses is super hit or miss; I’ve found out about RSV or hand-foot-and-mouth from other moms in the parking lot rather than getting a heads-up from the office. For a place that focuses on the arts, I wish they’d put that same energy into deep cleaning the play areas and being more strict about the sick-child policy. It feels like kids are dropped off with green noses all the time and nothing is said, so my little one is constantly bringing home whatever is circulating.

  • To be honest, I’ve been pretty frustrated with the health situation at Shining Star. It feels like there’s a revolving door of colds and stomach bugs, and I don't think the 'art' focus should come at the expense of basic sanitization. The classroom spaces often feel cramped and stuffy, which just makes everything spread faster. Communication about when a kid in the class is sick is hit or miss, so I’m usually find out after my own child starts showing symptoms. Chicago daycare standards are tough, but they really need to step up the cleaning and maybe be stricter about their sick policy because it feels like a bit of a free-for-all right now.
