  • I've had my little one at Shining Star on Ewing for a bit now, and I’m pretty middle of the road about it. On one hand, the teachers seem to really care and they even do cool community stuff like visiting the local fire department, which the kids love. But the health and maintenance side is hit or miss—I've talked to other parents who feel like you really have to stay on the staff to get maintenance issues or deep cleaning handled quickly. It’s not 'dirty' per se, but it doesn't always have that fresh, sanitized feel you want during flu season. Communication about sickness in the classroom is okay, but I wish they were a bit more proactive before half the kids end up with the same sniffles. It’s a decent neighborhood spot, but definitely not perfect.

  • Honestly, I have some real concerns about the environment here for the little ones. While the kids seem to enjoy the occasional community visit from the fire department, the daily upkeep of the facility is lacking. I've noticed it’s a constant struggle to get basic maintenance done, and the cleaning feels really hit or miss depending on the day. In a daycare setting, especially in Chicago where stuff spreads like wildfire, you really need a staff that's on top of sanitizing and repairs. It feels like you have to constantly badger them to get anything fixed or properly scrubbed down, which doesn't give me a lot of confidence in their overall wellness policies or how they handle flu season.
