  • Honestly, I’m pretty frustrated with the situation at Mason lately. It feels like there’s always something going wrong with the building that affects the kids' comfort and health. Just recently there were emergency maintenance issues with the boilers, and the 'south wing' has been having constant issues with fire alarms going off for no reason. It’s hard for the kids to stay focused or feel settled when the physical environment is so hit-or-miss. Plus, like a lot of CPS schools in North Lawndale, the absenteeism is a real struggle and it feels like the school is just playing catch-up rather than focusing on actual student wellness or extracurricular health programs. Communication from the office about these building repairs is usually pretty late, and I'm just tired of sending my child into a school that feels like it’s in a constant state of repair.

  • Tbh, I’m pretty worried about the environment at Mason lately. It feels like there’s always something breaking down with the building that affects the kids’ health. Between the emergency hot water leaks and the issues with the boilers, it’s hard for the building to stay at a comfortable, sanitary temperature for the little ones. It feels like we are constantly playing catch-up with basic maintenance, and that definitely has an impact on how often kids are getting sick. Communication about the facilities is pretty spotty and it makes me wonder about the overall air quality and hygiene when the infrastructure is this old and struggling. I really want to see them prioritize a cleaner, more reliable space because right now it just feels like we're waiting for the next pipe to burst.
