  • Honestly, I'm pretty stressed about the health situation at Hughes. My biggest issue is the chronic absenteeism—it's high, and it feels like there's a revolving door of kids coming in sick because there isn't a solid handle on wellness checks. When half the class is out, you know the environment isn't exactly 'healthy.' I've also noticed some budget transfers for 'environmental changes' in the board reports, which makes me wonder about the state of the building itself, like if they are dealing with old pipes or ventilation issues. It’s a neighborhood school and the teachers try, but between the attendance gaps and the general lack of resources for the nurse's office, it’s hard to feel like my kid is in a truly clean or wellness-focused spot.

  • Honestly, Charles Evans Hughes is pretty middle of the road when it comes to the health stuff. My youngest goes there and I’ll say the teachers are really good about reminding the kids to use hand sanitizer, especially during flu season, but the building itself is just older and feels a bit dusty. They’re usually quick to send an email if something like strep is going around the classroom, which I appreciate so I can keep a lookout at home.
