  • To be honest, I’ve been really underwhelmed with how things are handled at Rey B. Gonzalez. The communication when there’s a bug going around the classroom is basically nonexistent, and I feel like I’m always finding out way too late. The facility itself definitely shows its age—it feels pretty cramped and the ventilation isn't great, so once one kid gets a sniffle, it spreads like wildfire through the whole center. I also have a hard time getting a straight answer about their deep-cleaning schedule. It’s hard to feel confident sending your kid somewhere when you know they’re likely coming home with another virus because the sick-policy isn't strictly enforced. I really wanted to love it for the convenience, but the health environment just feels like an afterthought.

  • I've had my little one at Rey B. Gonzalez for a bit now and honestly, the wellness side of things is pretty solid for a neighborhood daycare. They really focus on Head Start standards so they're actually on top of things like nutrition and health screenings more than your average 'babysitting' spot. I was super impressed with their outdoor space—they have a butterfly garden and a little obstacle course that actually gets the kids moving instead of just sitting in front of a screen all day. Cleanliness is decent, though like any daycare in South Chicago, the seasonal colds definitely make the rounds. My only real gripe is that they close pretty early at 3:00 PM, which makes it a rush if your kid is feeling a little under the weather and you're trying to figure out pickup, but overall the staff seems to genuinely care about the kids' mental and physical health.
