Henry O Tanner Elementary School

I'm really struggling with the health culture at Tanner. The biggest issue for me is the attendance situation and how often kids are out sick; the chronic absenteeism here is way over 25%, and you can really feel it in the classroom environment. It feels like as soon as one bug goes around, the school just can't get ahead of it, and there's not enough communication from the office about what’s circulating.

Tanner Elementary is okay when it comes to the health stuff, but it's pretty much what you'd expect from a big CPS school. My son’s classroom usually looks pretty clean, but when flu season hits, it seems to spread like wildfire through the grades. I wish the communication about outbreaks was a little faster—sometimes I only hear about a bug going around from other moms in our group chat rather than the front office. On the plus side, the staff is really strict about the '24-hour fever free' rule which helps, and they've been pretty good about making sure the kids actually use hand sanitizer before lunch.
