  • Honestly, I’m pretty frustrated with how things are going at Burnside. The school feels constantly short-staffed, and with the high student-teacher ratios, it seems like the staff is too overwhelmed to really keep an eye on hygiene or notice when a kid is starting to look sick. My child has come home with stuff way too often, and I rarely get a heads-up about illnesses going around the classroom until half the kids are already out. It's a struggle to get clear communication from the front office about their health protocols, and the overall cleanliness of the common areas just doesn't feel like a priority. Given the low ratings and the general feel of the building lately, I’m really worried about the wellness culture here. It feels more like they are just trying to keep the doors open rather than actually maintaining a healthy environment for the kids.

  • Burnside is decent overall, but the health stuff can be a bit of a mixed bag. My 3rd grader says the classrooms stay pretty clean and they’re really on top of making sure the kids use hand sanitizer before lunch, which I appreciate. Communicating about bugs going around is okay—usually we get an automated email if there’s a spike in flu cases in his grade—but sometimes it feels like we hear about it a few days too late. The sick policy is strictly followed, so don't even try to send them in with a sniffle! My only real gripe is that the nurse isn't there every single day since she splits time with other schools, so it can be a little stressful if your kid has a specific allergy or needs regular meds handled.
