  • To be honest, I'm pretty concerned about the health environment at Kanoon. The chronic absenteeism rate is really high—well over 20%—and you can definitely feel it. It feels like there is always some bug going around the classrooms because the sick-child policies aren't strictly enforced, and the building ventilation isn't great. With the student-to-teacher ratios being what they are, the staff is stretched too thin to really keep an eye on cleanliness or if a kid is looking symptomatic before they've already shared germs with the whole desk group. It’s frustrating because the magnet programs are decent, but the physical wellness side of things feels overlooked. We need better communication when outbreaks happen and definitely more support for the school nurse's office.

  • My son has been at Kanoon for two years now and honestly, I’m pretty happy with how they handle things. The school always looks super clean when I drop him off, and the staff is really strict about the 'stay home if you're sick' policy, which I actually appreciate so things don't spread. They’re pretty quick to send out an email if there’s a stomach bug or something going around the classroom which helps me stay on top of things. Sometimes getting ahold of the nurse for simple paperwork can be a bit of a wait, but overall it feels like a safe, healthy spot for the kids.
