  • Honestly, George Washington Elementary is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to the health environment. The building is older, and like a lot of CPS schools, you definitely worry about the ventilation and general cleanliness. I've seen some asbestos notifications in district reports for the area which is always a little nerve-wracking as a parent, though the school says they stay on top of it. On the plus side, the early childhood program seems really focused on the little ones, and they try their best with communication when a bug is going around the classroom. It’s not a wellness retreat by any means, but the staff seems to care even if they're stretched thin by the city budget.

  • Honestly, it’s a bit of a mixed bag at George Washington. The teachers are great about reminding the kids to use hand sanitizer, especially during flu season, and I appreciate the emails we get when something like strep is going around the classroom. But the building is definitely showing its age, and sometimes the bathrooms don't feel like they're getting deep-clicked as often as they should be. It’s a typical CPS school—they do their best with what they have, but you definitely want to keep your kid home the second they look peaky because stuff spreads fast through those hallways.
