  • Honestly, the health environment at Galileo is pretty concerning right now. My kid loves the science focus, but the chronic absenteeism rate is sitting around 25%, which is a huge red flag for how they manage illness. It feels like someone is always out sick, and the school doesn't really seem to have a handle on wellness protocols or keeping parents in the loop. The student-to-teacher ratio is also on the high side, so I doubt the staff has the time to really notice if a kid is struggling or coming down with something. For a 'science' academy, you'd think they'd have better systems for public health and hygiene in the building. It just feels disorganized and physically drained.

  • So far our experience with health stuff at Galileo has been pretty solid. My second grader says the classrooms and lunchroom always seem clean, and I don't see a ton of grime in the hallways when I'm there. The office is really quick to call if a kid has a fever, and I appreciate that they actually follow the 24-hour fever-free rule before letting kids back—it definitely helps keep the seasonal flu from wiping out the whole grade. My only small gripe is that communication about local outbreaks can be a little slow sometimes, like we didn't get a heads up about HFM in the lower grades until a few days late. Overall though, the nurse is super sweet and they seem to genuinely care about the kids not just burning out.
