  • Jackson is a decent school, but the health side of things is pretty average CPS. The building is older, so you definitely notice the lack of modern ventilation on humid days, and I'm not always convinced everything is getting a deep clean with the staffing levels they have. Communication about bugs or seasonal stuff going around is okay, but it honestly feels like every other Chicago school where the primary focus is academics and the 'wellness' part is an afterthought. It's not a disaster, but I've definitely had to be the proactive one whenever my kid has special health needs or just to get clarity on the current sick-child protocols.

  • Jackson has been pretty solid with health stuff lately. The nurse is a total sweetheart and actually calls you personally if your kid scrapes a knee or feels even a little off, which I really appreciate. The school feels clean when you walk in, though honestly, some of the bathrooms could probably use a deeper scrub more often. During flu season, they’re pretty strict about the '24 hours fever-free' rule, which can be a pain for working parents but it definitely helps keep the classroom plagues at a minimum. My only real gripe is that they don't get as much outdoor recess time as I’d like during the winter months, but otherwise, they do a good job keeping the kids healthy.
