  • Honestly, I’m getting pretty concerned about the conditions at Reilly lately. I saw on a recent board agenda that they’ve had issues with no water coming out of the taps in certain areas, which is just gross when you think about kids needing to wash their hands and stay hydrated. Between the plumbing issues and the fact that the school is super crowded, it feels like a germ factory. It’s hard to feel good about the wellness culture when basic maintenance like water access is a struggle. Communication from the office regarding these building-wide health issues has been pretty spotty too. I want to love our neighborhood school but these infrastructure problems are a major red flag for my kid's health.

  • My youngest is at Reilly right now and honestly, the health stuff is pretty solid for a CPS school. The building is older so you expect some dust, but the custodians actually do a great job keeping the classrooms and the cafeteria looking clean. They're super strict about the sick policy—if a kid has a fever, they are calling you immediately to pick them up, which can be a pain if you're at work, but it definitely keeps the stomach bug from spreading to everyone. I also love that they try to get the kids outside for recess as much as possible even when it's chilly; it's good for them to get that fresh air instead of being cooped up in the gym all day.
