  • Honestly, I’m pretty frustrated with the situation at Cameron lately. The chronic absenteeism is over 35%, and you can really feel it in the hallways. It’s hard for the kids to stay healthy and focused when there’s such a lack of consistency. Plus, the building is older and feels like it needs a major deep clean; it seems like once one kid gets a sniffle, the whole Pre-K and kindergarten wing is out for a week. I know they have the ESSER funds and support programs, but it doesn't feel like that’s translating into a healthier daily environment for the students.

  • My son goes to Cameron and honestly it's a bit of a mixed bag with the health stuff. The teachers are really good about making sure the kids wash their hands before lunch and they definitely send out a blast when there's a case of strep or flu going around. But, like most CPS schools, the building is older and sometimes the cleanliness feels a bit surface-level, especially in the bathrooms by the end of the day. They’re pretty strict about the 24-hour fever-free rule though, which I appreciate because it keeps the really sick kids home. It's not perfect but the staff really seems to care about the kids staying healthy so they don't fall behind in class.
