  • Boone is okay, but it definitely feels like your typical overcrowded CPS school. My kid is in a class with almost 30 other students, and when flu season hits, it’s basically a domino effect because everyone is packed in so tight. I do like that they’ve kept up with some of the safety protocols and the YMCA after-school program seems to keep things relatively clean, but the communication from the nurse's office can be hit or miss depending on the day. They have some decent bullying prevention and wellness workshops, but with so many kids to keep track of, I sometimes feel like the individual health needs of the students get lost in the shuffle.

  • My 2nd grader has been at Boone for two years now and overall the health vibe is pretty solid for a big CPS school. I really appreciate how the office handles it when a bug is going around—they’re usually pretty quick with the emails so I know when to start loading up on vitamins. The building itself is older, which you expect in West Ridge, but the custodial staff does a great job keeping the classrooms from feeling grimy. My only gripe is that the nurse is only there a couple of days a week, so if your kid gets a scrape or a tummy ache on an 'off' day, you're basically waiting for a call from the front desk staff. Still, they seem to take the sick-policy seriously and don't let kids stay if they're clearly unwell, which helps keep the germs down for the rest of the class.
