  • Honestly, I’m pretty stressed about the situation at Chavez right now. The school has been dealing with some really heavy stuff regarding the name and the abuse allegations linked to it, and it feels like the administration is so distracted by the renaming process that actual student wellness is falling through the cracks. The attendance rates have been shaky, and you can tell the staff is stretched thin. It’s hard to feel great about the 'wellness culture' when there’s such a dark cloud over the school’s identity and not enough communication about how they’re supporting the kids' emotional health through all this transition. It just feels like a lot of the focus is on damage control rather than the day-to-day cleanliness or health policies I’d expect.

  • My kids have been at Chavez for a while now and honestly, the school does a pretty solid job staying on top of things. The hallways always look clean and the staff is really quick to send out emails or texts if something like flu or strep is going around the classroom, which I appreciate. They are pretty strict about the '24 hours fever-free' rule, but it definitely helps keep the germs down. Only downside is the gym can feel a bit cramped for wellness activities, but they make the most of the space they have. It’s a nice, safe vibe for the neighborhood kids.
