  • Burley is decent overall, but the building maintenance definitely shows its age. I noticed on some of the recent board agendas they've had to scramble for steam trap repairs and specific painting projects to cover up old wear and tear, which makes me wonder about the air quality and general upkeep during the winter months. It feels like they are constantly patching things up rather than being ahead of the curve. On the plus side, the school seems to be getting more budget for cleaning supplies lately, and the staff does their best with what they have. It’s a typical CPS experience—not terrible, but you definitely have to stay on them about the classroom conditions and making sure the heat is working right.

  • My son has been at Burley for three years now and honestly, the health side of things is pretty solid for a CPS school. The building is older, but it feels well-kept and they’re actually really quick about sending notice if there’s a stomach bug or something going around his classroom. I appreciate that the school nurse is really proactive; they don't just call you to pick up for every tiny graze, but they're firm about that 24-hour fever-free policy which keeps the constant classroom coughing to a minimum. Only downside is the lunchroom environment can feel a bit crowded/hectic, but the staff really tries to make sure the kids get enough fresh air time unless the Chicago weather is totally brutal.
