  • Tbh, I’m pretty frustrated with the situation at Carnegie. With chronic absenteeism hitting around 40% lately, it feels like the whole 'wellness culture' is just on paper. It's hard for kids to stay healthy and motivated when the building itself feels so run down—there have been constant requests for basic repairs and infrastructure fixes for years now, and you can really tell. The student-to-teacher ratio is also pretty high, so if your kid is feeling off or needs some extra attention, they kind of just get lost in the shuffle. It definitely doesn't feel like the healthiest environment for learning right now.

  • My youngest is at Andrew Carnegie now and it's a bit of a mixed bag with the health stuff. On one hand, the teachers are really good about reminding the kids to use hand sanitizer, and I haven't noticed as many 'classroom-wide' stomach bugs this year which is a huge win. But honestly, the communication from the front office when something is going around could be a lot faster—sometimes I find out from other moms in the group chat before I get anything official from the school. The building is older so it doesn't always 'look' super sterile, but you can tell the custodial staff works hard. Just wish the sick-child policy was a little more consistent across the different grade levels!
