Tbh, I’m pretty stressed about the health situation at Spencer. My kid is constantly coming home with something, and it’s no wonder when you look at how they’re handling the building. I saw a board report about floor tile removal and environmental assessments recently—basically code for asbestos or lead concerns in these old CPS buildings. It feels like they’re always playing catch-up with repairs instead of keeping the place actually clean. The chronic absenteeism in this neighborhood is also sky-high, so there’s clearly not enough support for kids who are struggling or getting sick. It just doesn't feel like a 'wellness-first' environment when you're worried about the actual air and floors in the classroom.
