  • Honestly, communication at Robert A. Black is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, I appreciate that they're finally putting money into capital improvements because some of these older CPS buildings really need the ventilation and infrastructure help. I also heard they’re updating the intercoms in several rooms so teachers can actually reach the front office in an emergency, which is a huge relief for safety, but it also makes you realize how outdated things were. The school is definitely in a busy area, and while they seem to try their best with sickness protocols, it still feels like the typical CPS grind where germs just spread fast. It’s an okay environment, but I definitely find myself packing extra hand sanitizer and hoping for the best during flu season.

  • Honestly, I’m pretty frustrated with the situation at Robert A. Black. It’s a magnet school, so you expect a certain level of care, but the building maintenance is a total mess. We’ve had issues with the heating going out and they had to bring in temporary units just to keep the classrooms from freezing—not exactly a healthy environment for kids with asthma or literal colds. I also saw some public reports about broken cleaning equipment and clogged vacuums, which explains why the carpets and floors don't always look the best. It’s hard to feel good about the 'wellness' here when basic facility stuff like heat and cleanliness feels like an afterthought. I really hope those capital improvement funds they're talking about actually go toward making the school a healthier place to be.
