  • Honestly, I’m pretty stressed out about the environment at Funston lately. Between the issues with the cleaning equipment needing repairs and those scary reports about smog and tear gas blowing toward the building from the street, I don't feel like the air quality or safety is where it should be for a school. It’s a neighborhood school and the teachers try, but the building maintenance seems to struggle with basic stuff. We’ve had a few concerns about how well the school is actually cleaned when things break down, and it feels like the health of the kids is an afterthought compared to all the other chaos in Logan Square. Definitely not the 'wellness' environment I was hoping for for my little one.

  • Honestly, Funston has been pretty solid with the health stuff this year. My 2nd grader's classroom always looks super clean when I pop in, and I've noticed they’re actually really consistent about making the kids wash their hands before lunch, which is huge for Logan Square flu season. The nurse is a sweetheart and actually calls you right away if there’s a bump on the playground instead of just sending home a random note in the backpack three days later. My only gripe is that the communication about when 'stomach bugs' are going around the grade levels could be a little faster, but overall, it feels like a safe, healthy spot for the kids.
