Phobe Apperson Hearst Elementary School

Honestly, I’m pretty worried about sending my kid to Hearst lately. We’ve been hearing about major issues with the heating system—apparently there are half a dozen cracked and leaking boiler tubs that they’re just now getting around to fixing. It gets so drafty and cold in those classrooms, which definitely doesn't help with everyone passing around colds and flu. Between the old infrastructure and the typical Chicago Public Schools' struggle with attendance, it feels like the school is constantly playing catch-up on basic maintenance and student health. While it's great they're getting new LED lights in the auditorium, I'd much rather they prioritize clean air and a warm building so the kids aren't shivering at their desks. Communication about these facility issues is pretty thin unless you go digging through board meeting notes yourself.
