Central Middle School

Honestly, Central Middle is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to health. On one hand, I really appreciate that they've been hosting talks about adolescent sleep and looking into how start times affect the kids—middle schoolers are basically zombies in the morning, so it's good they recognize that. They also have some decent nutrition programs in the cafeteria that seem better than the standard junk. However, the building itself is showing its age. There have been ongoing renovations which are needed, but the dust and general 'old building' smell make me wonder about the ventilation, especially during flu season. Communication on sick policies is okay, but I've definitely seen some kids in class who should have been sent home way earlier.

Tbh Central Middle is okay, but it’s definitely a typical public school environment. They’re pretty good about sending out emails when there’s a stomach bug or something going around, but I feel like the bathrooms could be way cleaner—my son literally avoids using them until he gets home. The nurse is super sweet though and always calls me right away if he’s feeling off, and I appreciate that they don't give me a hard time about keepin him home an extra day just to be safe. It's not perfect but they seem to try their best with what they have.
